Poetry for you, with a haiku...

Broken

A Fragile glass pane,
Shattered by a stone thrown through,
Is no longer whole.

{The Ugly Singaporean - Monday, November 21, 2005}

Exams are over and here I am back in Singapore. While I love being here with my friends, this place by no means feels like home. The manners here sucks as well as the very kiasu mentality which I have grown to hate. The drivers on the road are horrid. The way people queue up is shocking especially when they push and shove over the silliest of things. The language spoken here is painful to listen to-sort of like how the teacher accidentally scratches the chalkboard with her nails producing a sound which makes the your hair stand.

Some stuff i've done:
  • Chilled at starbucks where kev and i used to go to almost everyday. Of course we know the staff and get free drinks and stuff =)
  • Bought a Matthew Reilly novel
  • Bough lots of alcohol- some icewine and a martel for jun's graduating sister
  • Bought a new fragrance for my sis and i, both from Hugo
  • Played some dota with friends-its painful playing sg games. Most of them leave when things dont seem to go their way. This is a reminder to some of them: Quitters never win. Winners never quit. There is a reason for the lack of standard-cheating and being sore about things arent exactly the best way to make up for the lack of skill. I really hope they just dont look at life from the same myopic view. Then again, i cant remember when I read an article about Singapore having one of the highest number of people who need vision correction.
  • Went to my friends's balloon making competition. Grats on them as Jim came in first and Alfred got 3rd. I'll put up pix when possible.
Anyway. I'm really tired and im going to get some rest. I'll be heading down to Sim Lim to help my sister get some stuff in preperation for her upcoming trip(s).

{Exams! - Monday, November 14, 2005}

I know that I haven't updated my blog lately and I apologise. I have been camping at the resource library yet again with Ally and Roy because I try to stay as far away from my laptop as possible because of the infinite distractions that come with it. Work progress has been good though I occasionally abandon my work for an hour but usually two, to shoot some hoops or play soccer with the rest of the guys.

Soccer is fun especially when we can get lots of good passing going and some stunning goals make it the best possible break from the influx of millions of words and numbers in notes or textbooks. Sometimes I think to myself how wonderful it would have been to be able to play soccer (or any other sport) for a living like Wayne Rooney or David Beckham and earn millions playing a sport they love so much. No need to study, just play soccer. Alas, physical performance has never been a focus of the Singaporean culture and sadly, all we can do to make a decent living is to contribute to the 'knowledge capital' of our country.

It's sad because I believe that people have different talent distributions. While some may succeed because they have a fantastic ability to absorb digits and theories, there are many who might excel in the more artistic fields or have some athletic advantage over others. Obviously the latter two lose out growing up in a small materialistic country which that stifles such growth.

I'll prolly dabble more on that on my next post. Gotta take a shower and head back to the resource for a couple of hours and get more study in. I've got 2 exams on Thursday...UURGH.

{Think a Thought - Saturday, November 05, 2005}

Guess what?! Because I am busy thinking with all my corporate theories for my upcoming exam, I shall make everyone suffer as well. Muhahaha. From the metaphysical idea of thinking of thinking from the previous post, we move on to more thinking! This time,
Think...

Who are you?
Are you one who would sacrifice everything for one; or sacrifice that one for everything?

{Quote of Da Day - Thursday, November 03, 2005}

Courtesy of me. Sometimes with the neverending shitload of stresses and problems, they paint nothing but a subfusc picture of life. Thank god I can play basketball (when warcraft is unavailable or uninstalled) and channel my worries into performance.

Anyway, without further ado. Another from the top of my head....

I used to think I'm paranoid. Now I just think that I thought too much.

{Ho ho ho! - Wednesday, November 02, 2005}

That's right kids. Santa is here early, he must be. If not I have no idea how on earth they were selling 4 bottles of Hoegaarden for 13bux. AND if that's not cheap enough, they decided to throw that OHHHH so lovely hoegaarden magnum glass which we can pour our beer into.

We bought heaps. It looks as if we raided the liquor shop LOL. Alcohol therapy for the win! Anyway, been studying lots. I actually amazed myself by sitting my ass down to 4 solid hrs of study - until I forgot to eat dinner. So here I am writing up my blog at 12am, waiting for my pie to finish cooking. I'm sooooo tempted to open a bottle and down it with the pie but that would so screw up my mood to study later...

Anyway, pie's in my stomach already LOL. Was typing out the blog while chatting on msn and listening to some relaxing music. Which means it's time to get back to work. Ho Ho Ho!
